THE STATUTES OF DRISHT

The rare 1468 manuscript is published in full This chapter statute is the only one in the world and, necessarily, also the only one that has been discovered so far in the cities of the Adriatic coast and its hinterland, and for this reason it has extraordinary value for the history of Christianity. The manuscript “Statuta et ordinationes capituli ecclesiae Cathedralis Drivastensis” is extremely rare and unique, because it contains the statutes of the chapter of the churches and cathedral of Drisht, which also served as statutes for the city of Drisht itself, since both powers, the ecclesiastical and the secular, were concentrated in the hands of the bishop and the chapter of the cathedral of Drisht. As such, this chapter statute is the only one in the world and, necessarily, also the only one that has been discovered so far in the cities of the Adriatic coast and its hinterland, and for this reason it has extraordinary value for the history of Christianity. The manuscript has been prepared for publication and its typesetting is being carried out by the publishing house Ombra GVG Tiranë, and it is expected to see print in the coming days. The manuscript was written by the canon and notary of Bar, Simon Dromasy, on 12 January 1468. In fact, he made the description of the official version of 1464, from the book of the notary and canon of Durrës, Gjon Mauro, who at the same time was also secretary to the Archbishop of Durrës, Pal Engjëlli.
